The licuri fruit has a layer of pulp-which birds are very greedy for-and a stone that, in turn, hides an intensely flavored almond reminiscent of coconut. Also known by the names ouricuri, aricuri, nicuri, alicuri and coquinho-cabeçudo, it plays a key role in the local economy: for many families it is the sole source of income. It can be eaten unripe or ripe, fresh or roasted.
